Sea Cocks!

A couple of maintenance items involving cocks….

The first noticed was the kitchen sink seawater inlet. The valve handle was rather rusted, although it worked fine. A rainy day job was to get a new handle, but they don’t sell just the handle (have to buy the whole valve). So I took it off and used the file to take off all the rust and replaced it as-is, after a liberal spray of lanolin. She’ll be right for a while.

The next one was a little worrying – the toilet holding tank outlet was jammed open. I couldn’t budge it by hand, or with the small ‘persuader’ using the 12″ shifter as a hammer. Again, after some online advice from the good Sailing Australia community, I thought I’d risk breaking it by applying more leverage. Took the handle off and put the 12″ shifter on the valve handle spigot and Bob’s your Uncle, managed to free it up without breaking anything. A few open and close cycles and it’s still a bit tight but at least we can use the loo while in the dock now.
